Before you choose your new bathroom

Start with the things you want to change.

Write down what works in the current room and what does not. More storage, an easier shower entrance and a better layout are useful goals. A saved photograph can help show a style, but explain what you like about it.

Check the room before buying fittings.

Measure the room and note doors, windows and the position of the existing suite. Leave space to move, open cupboards and use each fitting comfortably. Confirm dimensions and plumbing requirements before ordering.

Agree the full scope.

Ask what is included in removal, preparation, plumbing and finishing. Establish which trades are involved, who supplies the fittings and how changes are agreed. If this is your only bathroom, discuss access to facilities during the work.

Make a useful first enquiry.

Include your postcode, room photographs, the changes you want and any preferred timing. Say whether you have already ordered products.
